I've been interested in machining as a hobby for quite a while. I've been looking for a place to start learning about it before I get started, but I'm having a bit of trouble. High School and college don't offer any classes and the book store doesn't offer any books on how to get started. Now, I would love to take classes at the technical school, but that isn't an option for me right now. So the question I ask is how and where can you learn about machining? I know that trade school is the best route, but since I'm already in college for engineering, I don't have the time or money for it. That being said, what are my other options? I think that finding a Book or two online might be my best option, although if anybody knows any clubs around the Pittsburgh area I'd be glad if you could tell me about them. Thanks for any advice you guys give me. I want to start out on the right foot, and not loose my right hand in the process of this hobby. |

| Find a local machine shop, and explain your situation and see if they would let you "shadow" a few workers. if you make friends with some of them they can show you the ins and outs. I have learned so much by talking and observing people who have the expierience that I lack. good luck.
