I start a new job Monday with a place that has 2 brand new Haas mills. I've run a lot of Haases, but I've been at a place that has only old Fadals all year. I didn't realize Haas has a new controller with CAM features. I'm a bit familiar with MasterCam & Gibbs, but I'd like to get a look at some of the CAM pages on the Haas controller before I start the new gig. Anyone know of a website I can check out? (The Haas website really didn't help... unless I was wanting to buy a new Haas machine. LoL) Thanks. |

| How many people do you expect have a brand new Haas machine with the new controller, and are familar enough with it that they could offer advice?

| the "new" control is really just a new interface. more info on one screen, less bouncing around between pages. if you are familiar with the haas control shouldn't have much of a problem, just a different look. not sure what CAM features you think it has on it....besides enhancements on graphing mode and live 2D imagining on the lathes. |

| ducesrwld, Thank you for your kind input. From what I (very briefly) saw, there are features such as face-milling, advanced pocket milling, some sort of macro-based drill cycles (bolt-hole circles & the likes. Perhaps there are 'pre-tool- indexes for tapped or reamed holes and such), etc., but you nailed it. It is a very different look (almost like some Windows-based systems like Makino has come out with). Just kind of freaked me out, and I was hoping to vaguely familiarize myself with (at least) those pages before I 'sink or swim'. LoL. Thanks again for your input. =) |

| btw.... Geof, you strike me as a ball sack (love the way you spell Jeff.... not. =), and your corny "...open mind" blah, blah, blah signature is tiresome. Sometimes, (as is my suspicion in this forum) people just want some practical, day-to-day tips and tricks to make it through their day in the shop..... not 'profound' life lessons. I started coding on a Fanuc controller slaved to a beat-up Matsuura mill in 1992. If I post here looking for a little help (and btw... the new Haas controller has a LOT of new bells and whistles), I know WTF I'm asking about. Thanks again for your insightful input. btw also, you seem to be some kind of 'hammer' here on this forum. If I've rubbed you the wrong way. and you chuck me from this sight... so be it. I've gotten nothing useful from here anyway. Peace. Last edited by MegaMill; 08-17-2008 at 01:46 AM. |

I need you to interpret: Is 'hammer' an insult or a compliment?

| Jayzus Geof.... Please stop posting to this thread if you're not going to offer something useful. My original point (to your first reply) was that I'm looking for some guidance for a SPECIFIC situation. I could care less HOW long you've been a member of this forum. If you don't have something helpful to add to my thread... please spare me your "How many people do you think have....?" and "...open mind" yatta-yatta. .... does this translate? Thank you again for your thoughts. |

| Okay here is something useful. According to information I received from the Haas the operation of the new Haas control with the GUI display is practically identical to the preceding control. Only the display has changed significantly; all the keys still perform the same functions. If you go to the Haas website you can find a small video display that shows, not very effectively, the different key areas on the control. If you are proficient on the earlier Haas controls you should have no problem on with the new display once you have recognised what information is displayed in what area of the screen.
