Hi everyone, i have been a lurker here for about a month. The question i have is what would be the best process to build a small cnc machine about 3X3. The machine will primarialy be used to cut Carbon Fiber / Kevlar and hopefully aluminum. What would be the best approach to this? and im willing to build my own machine. Is this possible? Is there any free plans available on the forum that could help be build it? i was thinking about using Slot T Aluminum for the frame. Where are the best place to buy the supplies and tutorials besides ebay.

My advice... Make it stout. You'll be able to trim cured carbon fiber easily on a t-slot machine with a regular wood router (I'm guessing you want to make it innexpensive as well) but you'll have a heck of a time getting a good finish on a t-slot machine with wood router. If you want to make a lot of aluminum chips and you're going to be doing it professionally you can buy a good stout manual Mill with CNC retrofit kit for under $10k. On another note. Let me know how it goes cutting Kevlar. I've never worked with it.

Kevlar cuts like carbon fiber, the reason i listed kevlar is then i do a lay up i use both materials. So i guess making a machine will cost about 10K, i have seen tutorials where the assembled a cnc with wood and costs about 800. Whats the best place to get the t slot aluminum from?
