I just found your forum from one of my welding forums. I'm ready to start the other side of the stainless fabrication business. I've been doing custom exhaust system fabricating for about 16 years now. I've always had good relations with suppliers, but with the economy such as it is, there are getting to many less of them. One in perticular has been the company that supplies my plate shapes. They are in hot water with the IRS again, I'm thinking this will be their last time. 3 years ago amid some similar issues, I put in a CNC plasma cutting installation as a hedge. When it was complete, the supplier problems seemed to go away so I mothballed the system as it was at the time more cost effective to continue with the supplier. Now's the time to start this system up. It is a Practical CNC 4'X8' CNC drive table driven by WinCNC software and uses the Bobcad Pro-X V21 drawing program. I haven't invested any time in learning this, but #1 son worked with it and drew lots of neat pictures on cardboard with a marker with it. Sadly he's now in college with no time to work with me on this, Sooo.. looks like I muddle my way thru and get it up and running. I'm sure I'll have a lot of complicated (in my mind) questions for the right people. G code to me at this point is pretty foreign, but I learned to read and write so I'm sure I can do this. |
