10.25 for 100lb....in other words $200 per ton or something close?????????

We get $30 per ton.

Can I send you my scrap steel via UPS, I might make more money that way.

Geof, you need to look around a little more, or truck it over the border.

Scrap steel/iron is going through the roof. I'm in the middle of fricken nowhere and I can get $235 a ton for junk cars. I guess I'm not buying any more $200 beaters that will last me 30-40k miles.

There was a thread on one of the other boards where people in more industrial areas were reporting close to $400 a ton for steel/iron.

400 holy crap.
we are at an all-time high here at $240

Geof, if you are just selling "chips", they don't pay very good.

At the rate we accumulate scrap steel it might take twenty years to fill a truck.

The thing I don't like about high scrap prices is that they mean higher prices coming up for steel round bar and tube.

the local scrap dealer here must be putting a fair bit into his pocket, pays $80 /tonne [2200 lbs] for cars. $110/tonne for 'prepared', no larger than 18"x18"x36"....

if I had a b-train load it would be better to ship someplace else, but...I don't, oh well,..
did a real good cleanup last fall, just under 50 tonne, non prepared, brought $1700 [delivered]...

it's consistent at least, price goes up AFTER I haul it in,
and the stuff I need goes down in price AFTER I buy it...

somedays it's just safer to stay in bed and hide....

enjoy..
