Well it has just come to my sad knowledge that on monday our Fab. Manager starts a 2 week whirlwind factory tour in China. The parts they're looking to get made are large beams that we used to outsource to a company here in the states. Given the size of our company (smaller) i never would have anticapated this. It makes me wonder, if they sending out outsourced work to china, how long till they start looking to send in-house work there?
I read an article somewhere (I wish I could remember where) that the rapid rise in labour costs in India and China combined with the sinking US dollar has caused some companies to look to the US as a source of "cheap" labour. If this trend continues, we could, one day, be hearing complaints from workers in Mumbai or Guangzhou about how their jobs are being outsourced overseas to the US.
Been there, done that, got the tee shirt...
