how dose cnc work?

Hi, I have come to this site a newbie, I know very little and I am having a hard time navigating this site, but I am sure I will get the hang of it after a bit...
anyway what I want to know is. where I can find info on how cnc works and is set up, I want to learn how the electronics work and are set up I am fascinated by this technology and want to learn as much as I can, so if someone would be so kind as to direct me to the proper threads, or recommend a book etc. on how this works I would be grateful, //cmg

I don't know of a single book that will give you the whole picture, the implementation and understanding of CNC architechture is covered by many disciplines.
Electronics & Servo's, Computer programming, PLC control & programming. Electrical Wiring & Control practices, and a few others that are helpful such as Cad/Cam, and General Machining helps.

My advice is to study g-code. It is spacial reference programming that you can learn. You must have a table with and x, y, and z axis. I use Master5 mach2 program to run most of my stuff. It reads g-code and can import .bmp files also.
Once you understand that x is left and right, y is forward and back, and z is up and down, you just have to tell the cnc machine where to go. Example: G1 x1 y2 z2
G1 in g-code means go to that address as fast as you can. The rest is the address in space.
I hope this helped. Dan326
