Chicago Newbie with a lot of questions | | Good evening and thank you for reading.
First off, let me tell you a little about me: I am in Chicago, IL, have been taking CNC programming, setup and operation and Mastercam classes for the past three months, and I am trying to change the direction of my career from culinary arts to machining/manufacturing, and I have a passion for the aerospace field.
As of late, I have grown a bit frustrated from my classes, as sometimes the instructors are annoyed when people like me -complete beginners- ask basic questions (even though the classes are clearly offered as intro courses). It is because of that attitude that I was compelled to look for anwers on the web, coming across this forum. I really appreciate any guidance that you can give me to help me break into this industry.
Well, here are a couple of questions I'm afraid to ask at school:
First off, what exactly is a job shop and what are the other kinds of shops?
What is the best way to get one's foot in the door in this industry and what training/courses do you recommend for me to take based on what the industry is currently in need of?
When I look at job postings, I see that many of them require machinists to own their own tools. What do you think are the must own tools I should buy and what brands/models do you recommend?
Thank you very much for your help,
