How to ask for a higher wage

Okay. I been at my company for 2 months. I stupidly put down $12 an hour.

I dont know why I did this I wasn't thinking. But.. I had two companies offer me $16+ dollars an hour. How do I bring this to the boss?

Please help me. I know this is a 4 dollar an hour raise and I guess I am asking for a lot but I am really underpaid I believe. I am making 24k a year when I should be making around 32k

Please help.

Can you still get in at one of the 2 places that made the $16 offer?

i don t know how it works in the US but here in Canada an employee has a 3 month probationary period at which an employer has a buffer of sorts to determine if the person fits in to the role , and normally with the low wage earners this is where the boss can determine what the employee is worth at the end of that period.
give him a few months to see what you can do then approach him and be honest and direct , tell him you could have made more elsewhere but you chose his company because it looked like a better work environment . if you are worth more to him he will probably be honest with you as to how well you fit in and what your worth to the company also where you need to improve ,thus you will have a new goal to meet and exceed those expectations for the next raise
don t ever give any indication of a threat to leave if you plan to stay because they will never forget that and it will work
against you

one thing to understand is negotiating is a two sided thing , if your not happy with what is being offered " tell him"

ive seen far too many guys over the years come from their review unhappy and i'll ask did you push for more and they'll say no ,
now theres the guy i want to sell my old car to

Two months in isn't a bad time to ask the boss how you are doing. I'd see if he was open to taking an hour or so and review you progress. It will be easy to say, "The probationary period's end is a month away, and I'd like to speak to you to find out what I need to work on to pass with flying colors." That's not asking for a raise, and if there are any unpleasant surprises... you'll know 4 weeks earlier and have that much more time to fix it. He might also pick up that you are wanting to get a good pay jump, but are willing to work for it.

Tell him you can get $16 elsewhere, but you'll need to be prepared to walk if he won't give it to you.

Ask what the max. pay rate is, & also ask other employee what they started out at & how long they have been with the company.

If they say they are making $11, just say, Yeah (insert long pause) Me to!

dunno bout that ,it could get ugly
one thing i have learned is not to discuss wages with other employees ,some companies have no pay scale and it seems sometimes what ever the mood is of the day that is the rate of pay
ive seen much anger on the floor when guys who have been with the company for some time have found out the new blood walking in the door is making more from the get go

Every place I've ever worked, no one ever cared If asked what they make, don't mean they will tell the truth.

Like me, I make $97 an hour (just playing).

Or did my boss tell me $9.70?

The place I work, has the pay scale posted on the bulletin board in the canteen, it's no secret.

I understand small companies might not do that.

Buy me a Beer?

ive always changed the subject when ive been asked

ive seen management employee battles where guys will use another guys wage as ammo ,thus becoming employee to employee battles when the other guy is refused a raise because his has been brought up in the past

i never under estimate the other guys greed
if it can tear apart a family ,then i could easily ruin a good job
