Introduction

Hi all,
I am a new member and also very new with cnc know how!
I do have a lot of expierence working in 3D as a mechanical design draughtsman, like wood work and is not to bad in building things in the workshop.
I would like to build my own cnc router to do some carving in wood or aluminuim.
After reading some post I realize that I must be looking for plans of 'JGRO build' and 'Joe2006', but the site is so daunting that I could not find it!. Can someone please be so kind as to direct me? Advise for a beginner will also be very welcome.
Now if I could only find the introductions forum

Welcome, I'm new too!

I just signed up today and have spent all day trying to find the Introduction Forum and figure out how to move around the site with out having to log back in all the time. So I share your frustration.

I have been an avid woodworker for 40 years. Retired from a real job a couple years ago and have been working building rustic furniture since that time. I am an inventor by nature and a problem solver by training. So as I have ventured into some new lines of woodworking, such as musical instrument building, inlay work and developing new jigs and tools for a friends business, I have come to the realization that a CNC router would be a tremndous asset to my workshop. In my pursuit of parts, plans and information, I ran across CNCzone and figured it would be a great source for info. Now if I can just figure out how to do something other than click all around and then just read what come up! I'll get it figured out, as will you.

Welcome aboard and maybe we can share our "learnings" with each other and figure out how to find what we want.

Good luck, Mike

Hello

Well, I don't feel quite so stupid now. Glad to see I'm not the only one who had a hard time finding this forum. I'm new to metalworking/welding. My interests lie in fabricating products for my Jeep. I am planning to build a bending brake and a tube bender to make my mig welder more productive.

I've been lurking for awhile and have gotten tired of the emails saying the zone misses me. I've been in the Paintless Dent Repair industry for about 20 years and have decided I need to start making some tools. I bought a Bridgeport mill last year with z,y axis and an antique controller. So this winter I'm adding a z axis and getting new controls. I'll be getting a lathe and some other fun toys too. The Local machine shop has just called it quit, so I might pick up a few deals there.

Back to lurking, Drew

This is my first on this forum. I've decided to purchase Bridgeport ROMI 17 x 40 CNC lathe. Has anyone used or own this machine? I also own FADAL VMC15.

OK.............after being stalked by a box urging me to post, ...then spending 20 minutes trying to find the introduction thread......could someone put a link to this in that BOX?....here goes.

I am a mechanic, fabricator, metalshaper, machinist (manual), welder among other things. I am 55 years old, disabled veteran that builds custom bikes and hotrods.

I have had a class on CNC lathe a few years ago before the community college dropped that course......never any practical experience. I need a CNC plasma and router table, and I need to make it as easy to program as possible. I have been trying to learn CAD on my own, but have achieved no great level of success. When I get started with a project I use my Bridgeport, my 14X40 lathe, Pullmax, english wheel, saws, welders.......until I need a part cut. At this time I will draw out a part, cut it out of steel, machine and drill it. If I need more than one I take it to one of my buddys that do CAD and have them draw it ( usually a week) , then to the laser place and they do an excellent job for me at a good price......but it can take 3 weeks! When I get my parts back then I find a change I need to make and here we go again. I did not want to learn something new, and can't afford a machine like I want...so I will probably be bugging everyone here for information. My name is John Brown and I live in NE Oklahoma.........
