hi djdove,

you have a good idea there, and a good start on your website. If anyone else would give you tidbits to add, like rules of thumb that apply to machining and using tools, your site could quickly become a reference to everyone starting in the trade.

good luck!

Great effort my brother. I remember that enthusiasm and it's good to see that it's still alive, albeit in a different person :P I got something for your site. I would love to write an article on macro programming for you if you wouldn't mind. Heres a sample of my work I hope you will post on your site. Its a macro for Okuma turning centers which all but automates bar pulling. This is an alpha implementation and by no means finished, but I think adding some parametric goodness to your site may help it's over all appeal. It's a combo of two programs and both need to be present. The use of the macro goes like this.
Code:
(PART OFF TOOL)
G01 X0 F.004
CALL OBAR
Here are the programs
Code:
OBAR

N1
M5
M9

V200=V200+1(INCREMENT COUNTER)

BARD=2.0(STOCK DIAMETER)

BARL=36.0(BAR LENGTH)

FFA=.02(FACE FINISH ALLOWANCE)

DROP=3.0(DESIRED DROP LENGTH LEFT IN CHUCK)

(*DO NOT EDIT BELOW THIS LINE*)

V199=VETLN(SETS THE TOOL # OF PART OFF TOOL IN V199)

VTOFX[1]=0(SETS THE X OFFSET FOR PULLER)

PARL=VSIOZ

PTCT=ROUND[BARL-DROP/[PARL+FFA]]

G00X20.

Z5.0

IF[V200 GT PTCT]N1000

T0101

X[BARD+1.0]Z-[PARL+.5]

G01 G94 X0. F200.

M84

Z[PARL+FFA]

M83

G95

G0X[BARD+1.0]

N1000 IF[V200 LT PTCT]N2000

CALL OBAR2 BARD=BARD PARL=PARL(CALL END OF BAR CYCLE)

GOTO N1

N2000

RTS

Code:
OBAR2

G00 G96 M3 S1000 T[V199*101]

X[BARD+.1]Z-[PARL]M8
