AFAIK, Dell makes some of the best "ready-made" systems. Even though I would never buy a desktop (from them or anyone else), as it's much better to build your own, I haven't heard anything bad about their laptops. I may also be purchasing a laptop in the future, possibly around August. If you buy before then, let us know.

I just bought a new Toshiba for on site programming.

16" screen real crisp.
512 ddr ram
60 gig HD
32 Meg Nvidia G4 "not shared" Great for Cad-Cam
DVD-r burner & CD's

It's turned out be just what I expected it to be a real good book.

I looked at the Dells but found to get the same was alot more money.

this still was not cheap but under about $2500 after rebate and 3 year extended warrenty.

Usually i would not advise on getting an extended warranty, but for laptops, I think it's worthwhile. Juat after xmas I had the job of replacing a laptop keyboard, and that alone cost over £60! (~$100) I hate to imagine the cost for a new motherboard!

I purchased a Dell Inspiroin about 1 year ago. It works great! I got the top of the line graphics and screen, since I do CAD/CAM work on it in bed I also set it up with a wireless lan card so I can be on the net anywhere in the house.

I agree with Neo. I too always build my desktop PC's unless I get a free one from work

I do not think they make Celeron chips without on board processing anymore but you might want to check seeing as how your getting ready to shove a ton of math functions through it.

This was a big issue about 6 yrs ago or so... They made a lot of internet pc systems that were great for surfing but would choke on programs using a lot of calculations.

As for Dell - nice PC's.

Oh - heres a nifty offtopic link for anyone that wants to spiffy up there system www.glowire.com c'mon lets see some neon'ed up routers now!
