| I kinda cheated on the smileys. The smileys here on cnczone are .GIF images, GIF images can also be animated, think of them as a movie on an old film projector, they are a series of picture frames, & these frames can be set to whatever speed you want (with software). If you take the image in the first frame, & just keep copy & paste the frame for each of the following frames, then in each of the following frames move/shift that image, it will look like the image is moving. If you "Right Click" on this smiley & then select "Save Picture As...", you'll be able to save the image to your pc hard drive. Save the image someplace easy, like your desktop. The default file name will be "confused", & the file xtension is ".GIF", it needs to stay as a.GIF file, so don't change the extension (.jpg, .bmp, etc...). You should now have a basic image on your dektop, you can find millions of them online, I'm just trying to keep it simple, for this example.Next you need to find a program online that will allow you to edit the .GIF image. I use this one it's a free 30 day trial, or 50 uses which ever comes first. It's a bit of a learning curve, really it's kinda like MsPaint, just a bit awkward. So download the trial version & open the "confused" smiley that is already saved on the desktop, this is specific to the program I have others will be different. (AZ Paint Pro --- Full Version 7.7.0) 1) "Animated GIF" (drop down menu) 2) "Open Animated Gif File..." 3) Open the "confused" smiley from the desktop. You should have a single frame on the left side of the screen. We need to add more frames. 4) (bottom middle of the screen) click the "Copy Current Frame to Clipboard" Button, If you hover your cursor over the buttons, they will show a brief description of what they do. 5) click the "Edit Image Series" button (bottom of the screen). 6) So far we only have one block/frame, we need more to animate this image. Click the button that reads "+Block After", that should create a second frame (blank frame). 7) click the "Edit Image" Button (bottom/right of screen). A new window will open. 8) Zoom in on the image with the dropdown (top/right of screen) it goes from 1-8, Zoom all the way in (number 8). 9) Change the brush size to #1 (it defaults to #3 brush size) top/left of screen. With the brush size set to #1 we can edit the image 1 pixel at a time. 10) Now we need to paste the copy of the first image that we copied to the clipboard back at #4. (Top of the screen) "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Paste". 11) This example will be simple, all I'm going to do is delete the ?'s marks from the second frame, I'll use the Pen in the Toolbox on the left side of the screen, & select white as the color. 12) After you delete the ?'s marks, click the button "Apply Changes to Current Frame" (Top/left of screen). That will close out the editing window. 13) We need to set the speed of how fast the ?'s marks will flash on our image, click the "Modify Settings" (bottom/middle of screen). 14) The default delay is set to zero, change that to 80. Click the "Proceed" button (bottom /right of screen) to save the speed setting. Then select "Yes" on the popup window. 15) click the dropdown menu "Animated GIF" at the topleft of the screen & select "Save Animated GIF". That will bring up a Save dialog box, & apply the name "confused_X" that's just a default of the program you can change to whatever you want, I'll leave it as the default name for now. 16) Were done with the editing program, close the program, & go back to the desktop, click the image that we saved "confused_X". Our image now looks like this: Start ---> ![]() Finish ---> .

| This is how to use the new image on the forums, here on cnczone. 1) Click the "Go Advanced" button to post a reply. 2) Click the "Manage Attachments" button, so we can upload the image. 3) Click the "Browse" button in the popup window, & select the "confused_X" .GIF image that we worked on in the example. Click the "Upload" button, wait for the file to appear in the popup window, then close the popup window, it shouldn't take very long to upload, the image is very small. 4) Click the cursor at the spot in your message that you want the smiley to be at (in the textbox), then click the small paperclip image inside the "Advanced Editor", it should show a dropdown of the "confused_X" .GIF image, click the image name. 5) Click the "Submit" button to post the message & new smiley. .

| It looks like a lot of work, but after a couple, it goes real fast. I made a folder on my desktop that I put my new smileys in, that way I can just open the smiley like I'm posting an attachment here on the zone. If you don't want to make your own, you can find a bunch online for free. Another little trick is to just post the URL of an existing smiley thats someplace in internet land, like this one I just did a Google search to get this smiley, that was on the first page, of the search results. .

The reason I said I was cheating was, most smileys can be done with a few strokes on the keyboard, like: Code: :) ![]() If you place your cusor over the smileys I already posted, it will show the image info. It's not a big deal, the end result is close enough. .
