Question SHOWDOWN! - Adobe Dreamweaver VS Ms Expression Web ?

Hi all,

I'm looking for the good, bad and ugly of these two programs before I part with my hard earned money, so any web developers or non-developers out there please feel free to rave against, or praise to the heavens, either of these program. Thankyou.

Microsoft Expression Web

Adobe Dreamweaver

This isn't the answer you are looking for, but why are you looking at spending money on an unnecessary program?

Any webpage I've ever done (in the past, back when I was into such things) was done by hand. Even in the present day, any web developer or designer whose work I respect does it by hand as well.

Sure you could code by hand, I wouldn't If I didn't have to, thats what web editor software is built for, to simplify the task. Just like this entire site wasn't coded by hand (except for the seller/builder of the original vBulletin).

thkoutsidthebox,

You can find plenty of web editors out on the net, that are free.

Are you looking to build a small business website, with PayPal abilty etc...?

Another option that is made by Microsoft is ASP.Net, this is free, I havn't used it but I do know a lot of websites are built with ASP.Net.

Here is a fake website built by Microsoft to demonstrate what can be done with ASP.net, it's part of the Starter Kit templates.

You can find tons of free tutorials & videos for free showing how to build sites.

Thumbs up

Hi, thanks for the replies.

I used to write HTML by hand about 12 years ago. Times change and types of script for website's has expanded and changed.

Switcher, thanks, I'll have a look at ASP.Net.

You can also try Nvu. It's very similar to MS Frontpage, but free: http://www.nvu.com/

Did you have to supply a credit card number?

I looked into that a few months back, I thought they asked for the number, & they said it wouldn't be billed, at the time it reminded me of all those AOL cds.

All the sites I've seen that used Web Expression (yours included) all looked great.

Did Web Expression, replace Frontpage?

I take that back it wasn't Web Expression.

It was MS Office Live that I was looking at.

This website looks like it was built with MS Office Live, at least they have the link at the bottom of the page.
