CNC Boring Heads???

Does anyone have an idea on how these [boring-heads] might work. I'm trying to get an understanding on how these are programmed. The software I use [U.G.S] does not support this by itself. Instead it relays on a custom post to define how the out put needs to be. But in order to get the post right I need to understand how it works first. Can anyone give me any feedback on this or websites I might be able to check out to give me a better outlook on this???

Thank You...

Are you talking about a regular manually set boring head? Like the one here:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=tI28-m6Rn-I

If you need a 2" hole you would make a hole with a end mill 1.985 or so and then take the boring head position in the middle of the hole and go straight down and walla you have a 2.000?" hole or so.

Buy me a Beer?

I unfortunately don't know the answer to your questions, but I do have a link to a video that may help clarify what you are trying to do. Are you referring to a CNC boring head that is similar to the one in the video?

Hope this helps

There are a ton of different styles of boring head for CNC gear. You need to specify a specific model for someone to explain to you how it works. Modern boring heads can be had with just about every option and every feature you can think up.

Sorry, can't answer your question. Never used anything like that. WAY beyond anything I could afford.

Do you know who makes that particular boring head? Which brand are you using? I'm guessing that they're similar in function to powered lathe chucks.

ZX200 & ZX400 Contour Head_KURAKI_HBM

I'm not just trying to bore a straight hole. Thats pretty basic. What I have is a contouring head for a HBM. I need to basicly profile the inside of a hole on the mill. the part is pretty big and wont work on our lathes or v.t.l's .the hole is about 7 inches in depth, has "O" ring grooves, thread reliefs, and needs a 32 finish through-out the whole surface. I'm guessing I would have to manually program it as if it were a lathe operation, then input that into what I'm posting out in my software. the problem i was having was trying to figure out how the trackinh point in this situation is going to work...

oh....

The spindle on the HBM moving in and out controls the swing diameter of the contouring head. So the diameter you cut is controlled by the position of your spindle that attatches to the inside of this contouring head
