HI, I am new to the cnc.zone and want to know if anyone can direct me in the right direction. I am a HS teacher and want to get started with electronics. I teach Autocad, rhino and have mastercam with a nice cnc machine but don't have a clue how to incorporate the cnc with electonics. here is what I want to do in my manufacturing class. have the students understand the basic electonics create a schematic translate that to the cnc and route the board assemble and solder the project. sample projects I am thinking of are: flashing lights, horn, sensors etc I need help with the projects (schematics) and conversion processes to cnc board making operations very simple bell and whistle electronics. I can buy a 300-n-1 electronic kit but I want to ty the cnc into it. I am very comfortable with cad, rhino 2d and basic mastercam (we have only had it 1 year). I know it is a lot to ask for on a 1st post, but I am sure there are enough people out there that can direct me in the right directions. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks |

| Well Mr Stanfield I just have one question for you. Where were you thirt.......hmmm when I was in high school? Huh? It actually thrills me to see the high schools getting involved in this arena. I would like to see something like this in the state of confusion I live in! If you look at my location you can readily figure that one out. Since you are a teacher your input on this would be very helpful. Do you know if every state has the same regs about certification for teachers when it comes to teaching something like cnc, cad, 3d modeling etc? Now to the helpful part. try www.electronickits.com I don't know if they have educational discounts or not but it would be worth a try. They have plans and everything you mentioned. I checked the link and it is correct. BTW welcome aboard. Mike

| thats for the help, unfortunately the regulations differ from state to state for certification. That is a GENERAL tech ed cert. teachers can teach what ever they want depending on their facilities, ability and desires. I taught in NM before moving to the midwest. I have always taught woodworking and CAD, I have taught machining, welding and milling but not CNC or electronics. I could not ask for more of a supportive admin. for technology. I feel very lucky. thanks again |

| I'm learning electronics, a little slow but I'm learning, try the downloadable samples here (Twyste-Pair) ,I think it would be good as a learning aid, I've learn more with the free samples than with the books I've read. just trying to help (and increasing my post )Mhel

| For making printed circuit boards you normally use a specialised cad (2D only, several layers) and not a mechanical cad. Just a few names: http://www.cadsoftusa.com/ (Eagle; also a free version for limited print size), http://www.orcad.com/, http://www.pcad.com/, http://www.protel.com/ ... They generate "gerber" files as output, a file format very similar to g-code. To understand also electronics look also at http://www.circuitmaker.com/, a circuit simulator software (FREE CircuitMaker Student Version available for download ). Hope this helps! |
