I have two theories on why this is true.

1. Its the same phenomena that causes my socks to get lost in the washing machine.

2. The angles of the tapered pieces are different and hence allow more/less material along the tapered edge.

Buy me a Beer?

Yup, I am with John, the green triangle has a gradient of 2 in 5 and the red has a gradient of 3 in 8, different angle, I could probably work out the exact angle difference but my head hurts...

Don't worry about the prize, I will shout myself a beer

Actually John may have a point about the sock thing...

Russell.

Well done guys,
I knew it had to be something like that so I played around in Rhino and came up with this. The dissimilar layouts made a full rectangle when mirrored, the similar layouts had a gap along the edges of the triangle.

Cheers
