The one I saw had two lasers and would only polymerize the liquid (styrene?)where they crossed. The lasers moved up the tank. This was then used to produce a mould for protoyping in whatever or a few samples. They were pretty expensive but that was in the early days of this type of thing in oz.
Another crowd uses an single laser to fuse nylon powder with the part moving downwards.
