o.k. this might be killing a dead hoarse...

So I have Work NC. and have not followed up on my "maintenance" fees
which they want to charge on a yearly basis. The agreement states:
Free to use software forever, even if you choose not to stay up to date
with the maintnenance fees which get you the latest updates.

Well they came out this spring and showed me the latest and greatest,
it looked and fealt just like what I have which is a version approximately
4 years "behind". So once again I decided to pass on the "deal".

Then my dongle puucked. So although new authorization codes are free,
apparently they figure this $10 dongle is now worth $500... Because I am
not on maintenance. Now I would not have a problem with them saying, "o.k. if you do not see value in the yearly upgrade, then the authorization codes will cost you $100 per year, but you do not get the upgrade unless you pay the maint. fee." That would be o.k. but the gouging on the dongle price in wack.

Any one else run into this "Stick the guy in the back when he's down" from software vendors?

And being as I have not settled this issue with WorkNC, does anyone have
any suggestions for a good 3d contouring package from other vendors? At this point I would almost rather spend the $10 k for someone elses stuff
than fork over $500 for a stinking dongle....
