hi all, I've got a 7x12 seig thats going cnc soon and am in the motor picking prosses. Found some 111 in.oz. motors is that enough? I dont realy take any thing big on, just 100-200 very small parts at a time. Never over .625 Now I dont know too much about this stuff. The mechanical aspect is simple, but the electronic part, well..... |

| I used 267 OzIn motors on mine on both axis and they work fine. Could be a bit faster, but get the job done. If the 111inoz motors you have a standard Nema 23 and have a standard 6mm or 1/4" shaft, you could use them to get started, and easily replace them if they are too slow in practice. In the overallscope of a building and tooling up a lathe, the $45 each for two 300 ozin motors is peanuts.

| thanks Mark, That helps me in knowing what to start looking for.. After I posted this, I found a whole "plug n' play" set for $400.00 . I'm also thinking about that. but if not, than I'll remember what you said about this. here's the site I found, I'm sure You guys have seen it already but heck why not? http://www.cncresource.com/store/ind...ain_page=index Like I said before.. the mechanical part is no problem I've been doing manual machining for a while. That's what I'm interested in but I can't keep up with some of the high quantiy jobs so here we go! Also I realize to effectivly run cnc, Ya gotta be able to trouble shoot the whole thing not just the lathe or mill part. Hence the reason -even if I can find a turn key kit, I'm still thinking about building one. I don't want to end up stranded half way through a job and not knowing what to look for. This stuff seems pretty straight forward, so far -I'll keep coming back to learn! Best to ya, Eddie |

| Two Gecko's, two high power double stack Nema 23's and a simple PSU, and you would end up with better performance than that $400 set. At the end of the day you will have to sort out the backlash on the X Axis (you can more easily life with Z axis back lash on the a lathe), which is a challenge I haven't yet solved within the 20x20mm slot for the cross slide nut in the saddle. Dave K's solution with spring loading against the backlash is probably as effective as any on this machine.
