Is it me or are the prices people are asking for used CNC equipment outrageous? I occasionally browse the web to see what's out there and I'm shocked at some of the prices that I see. 10 year old Haas machines that look beat to s*** for 25k+ & 25 year old Mori's going for 15k. I know that Mori's are among the best machines, but I'd really be hesitant to buy something that old and risk having to spend an additional 15k to retrofit the electronics. The used Fadal market isn't that great either. I just saw a 1987 Fadal 4020 go for over 20k on eBay. Last time I checked you can step into a brand new VF-0 , a Fadal 2216, or a Hurco TM-1 for around 40k and a 3016 or VF-1 for under 50. Maybe I'm missing something but to me the extra 15k is well worth the money for a new machine...

| Yep they are all way over inflated! I talked to a used machinery dealer the other day and asked him where are the older Haas units (1993-1996)? He said you won't see allot of them on the market because the used dealers he knows are scraping the ones they get. I naturally went "WHAT?" His reply was that they get them for next to nothing at auctions and can sell them for scrap for more than they paid for them! I told him nest time he gets one for scrap or hears about it to give me a call. Even if I have to retrofit a Hobby control on it they thing would still be worth it to me!

| Guy I worked for looked into a Super Mini Mill. Could not get it into his shop for less than $60K. On the other hand, there certainly are a lot of scummy sharks in the used machinery business. And some people think their junk is still brand new. You can always make an offer on used stuff. If the dealer has been sitting on it for a while, he might be anxious to unload it. |
