Posible alternative to the Porter Cable 7518

I know the 3.25hp Porter Cable 7518 is a good router, but at 350.00 it is a little expensive for the DIY sometimes.

I ran across this Hitachi 3.25 HP var. speed same amp as the P.C. may be a cheaper alternative to the above.

I know the Hitachi 2.25 hp i use now i have had no problem at all with it and still works great.

Very interesting router. I wonder if the variable speed control can be hacked to be driven by a d/a converter port on the computer.

Edited: That is, the electronic variable speed on the Hitachi router. Someone should buy this router and start tearing it apart.

Well the wireing is in the handle so should be easy to get to.

I have a Ridgid 2.25 hp with variable speed and feed back to keep it at the set speed no matter the load. I have considered getting in there and adapting it to be controlled from Mach 3. So far the router is one bad hummer
