    New some advise.

For some reason I have determined I have to have a CNC machine . I have been bitten by some sort of addiction.
I am trying to figure out what I need.
I like to tinker/design rc stuff (cars/planes). I would like to cut aluminum/carbon fiber and wood.

There is a catch. My wife enjoys making and selling craft items at local art shows. I would like a machine that can engrave things like tile/wood.

So I am pretty sure I should get an engraving type CNC machine.
The question is will a home made CNC router cut aluminum??

I was reviewing one here at CNC Zone made by JGRO, will this work for what I want ?? or should I be looking at something else.

    Thanks
    Dan

A mill will do what a router can do albeit not on as big a work surface.

A router can NOT necessarily do what a mill can especially when it comes to drilling holes or removing large amounts of material - quite valuable if you do billet stuff with RC's.

WHAT you're going to make should determine what you want to buy. No one machine can be all things to all people.

Being more of a metalsmith, I'd vote for a CNC mill over a router any day but that's because I have more auxiliary need for what a mill can/will do than a router.

Besides, if I need something routed, I'll pay for the random need and have it done on my neighor's Haas VMC - much, much, MUCH more accurate than any router I've ever seen.... grin.

where you are looking to do RC stuff and some crafts a mill would be a better choice for you. I would think that most all of you work would fit in a machine with Y12"x X20"

    Thanks for the input.
I have not decided yet. I may just buy a mill and build a router .
    decisions decisions.
