simple circuit for step motor?

I just buy one step motor: oriental motor PK244-02BA with 6 wire DC
0.8A 7.5ohm 2 phase and a ic MC3479P stepped motor driver,
would like to know is there some simple circuit I can build and test
the step motor from the pc?
this 2 items cost me $12 but I think is the good start to learn
something new.
thanks

There are several pages on my website you may find helpfull towards your goal. One problem you have is the MC3479P is probably a little shy on current ability for your motor.

is there any other suggestion on the driver? normally how much current is suitable?
my plan is to make one step at a time, if geckodrive is a good start ( what model?), then I don't mind to start with using something that is more or less plug a bigger motors and it will go better.
thanks.

From a circuit with 3479p I have made the schematic called for 4 3055 's on the output. I am not an electronic guru but a hobbiest and it is working for me.

your circuit sound interesting to me too, can you share with me. you can email to output123@gmail.com
btw what is 3055 is that the power transistor?
Thanks.

The 3055 is the power transistor and I will either draw a diagram up or see if I can find the circuit.

thanks a lot, and you are in canada too, I am in Richmond Hill, ontario.
to save you time, you can just take a picture of your setup and a simple diagram of the circuit, I can figure it out on my side, where do you go to buy your stuff? I find it is not that easy find parts that is reasonable price in Canada. not that many surplus shop around.

In the 60's live on Poyntz ave. just south of Sheppard so know the old Richmond Hill.
I have this schematic from Sayal in Toronto off there site but not sure if they still have it on. You can have a look to see if anything is interesting for you. I use a breadboard to try everything then go from there. Mine is a 6 wire stepper. I installed led's on L1,2,3,4 with 1k resistor's to the base of the 4 2035's. Emitters go to ground and the collectors are to the coils. The 2 power wires are separate power and might need a resistor in the lines. If you do a bit of a search you can find how to hook to a pc or what ever you want to do. I used to have a lot of area's to look at but cleaned my pc up.
I built the EDM(sinker) from Stictly IC awhile ago but had to change a few things like the 5804 to the 3479. It is not computer controlled but the timing and other things are adjustable. Works for me anyways.
I started purchasing from Digikey as every time I try in Calgary they never seem to have everything. I live in Vulcan Alta. 1/2 way between Calgary and Lethbridge and it gets expensive when you travel and come up short.
Hope this is of some help.
John
