Good day gents. My name is Bill. I'm a licenced Industrial Millwright currently working as a quality inspector. I have experience in a wide variety of mechanical systems and a bit of electronics experience. Current project is a DIY CNC router. A little digging and I've come up with eight Slo-syn stepper motors and three 430 T controllers, for a reasonable price. Looking forward to the Eureka moment when I can connect and control, them from my computer. I'll be searching the site to find out everything I can. Thanks.

Hello newb from Missouri USA and just chiming in. I am in the process of building a 4x8 CNC Plasma Cutter Table and have been blown away by the knowledge this site holds. Can't wait to get up and running.

Hey guys! I am a CNC programer and setup & operator and love the manual machines. I also have a Rockwell knee mill I am rebuilding in my garage and also am building a 1928 model A roadster with a flathead V8 to race at Bonneville one day to follow in my Grandfathers footsteps.

Hey guys! I've been lurking for ages and have a G0602 lathe thanks to its popularity on this board. I am about to buy a Bolton ZX45 and have a new thread in the benchtop metalworking section. I'm trying to get my list of parts finalized for a cnc conversion right away.

    Smile Long time lurker

    Hi,
I have been lurking and referencing this site since 2006. The software apparently now wants to know if I am real or not, as I haven't made a post in that time. I have recently begun receiving emails from the zone about my lack of posts so here is a post.

I like metal and woodworking. I am building a casting furnace. I am toying with getting a tormach at some point, but am not sure if I am that interested in devoting the time that will be necessary to learn all that that entails. I might begin with a 3d printer to get my feet wet. At this point all my metal working is done on manual machines and I have been happy with that.

I just like hanging out and reading stuff on this site, I am not looking for a social club or anything. It's nothing personal and hope you understand, if I need to ask a question I will, and I am sure there will be plenty of great answers.

    Jim

    Hi again,

After reading my above post it could be taken as offensive to some. It is meant to be taken as humor, and aimed at the "machine" that keeps emailing me wanting me to post. I am not antisocial, just not versed in cnc and don't have a cnc yet, so no posts. Meant with humor and respect

    Howdy

I am an electrical engineer, specializing in Rf and microwave passive components (antennas, filters, couplers, matching networks, mixers, ...) who was laid off last April and now trying to establish a rapid design / protoytpe business.

I live in Houston, where everything is about the energy bidness, and haven't found a 'reasonable' contractor for my prototype work. thinking of trying it myself, hence my interest in the 'zone.

I'll go back to perusing the site now.

    Hi All,
I've been lurking here a few times over the years but just joined. I've owned a manual series1 clone and a 13" manual lathe for just over 20 years but I think it looks like this CNC fad might just catch on so here I am.

My machining background started with firearms in the late 80's and today I work as the design engineer for a toy company. I'm pretty solid on general machining practices, fixturing, Solidworks, etc but I'm pretty much a newb with cnc. I've done a few small CAM projects that ended up cutting chips but I know I have a heck of a lot to learn.

I'll be adding a Tormach 1100 to the prototype lab in the next couple of weeks so I'm sure I'll be asking more questions than y'all care to answer.

    Great Forum!

    Jeff

    Hello from Holland

All I wanted to buy was a router in the US style (cylinder shape) for a couple of projects like a router table, vertical router table and a tilting router table. Found out they don't exist in Europe (don't ask me why, because I can't answer that). So decided to look for an US router on Ebay. Should never have done that, because now I'm infected with this CNC virus.
I found a couple of routers which were interesting and then I found a spindle which was for CNC. Ah, I know something about CNC. Let me see what else you can buy for CNC. Wow, there's a lot available. Hey, what's that? DIY CNC. Hmmm, lets have a look what you can do with a DIY CNC on YouTube. Seems like it's only a matter of imagination and creativity. Forget those router tables. I want a CNC router. Let's Google and see who got more information on those CNC routers. Lots of hard- and software available. Sorry guys and girls, don't need that yet. YES, a forum. Good stuff there. Sign up and now I'm here.
So in short, yes I want to build my own CNC router. Have seen amazing designs, but also found an interesting statement about Z-axis and decided I will work on that. The Z-axis will be formed by the X-axis which moves vertical. Why? Haven't seen any designs yet, which uses this kind of Z-axis and the Z-movement needs to be capable of something like 50 centimeters (19.68"). Like the idea of an A-axis and that is planned as well. Rotating head in 2 directions is also interesting, but for now I will stick with those 4 axis. The CNC router will be used for milling and turning wood, plastics and non ferro materials.
Lucky me, CNC virus isn't lethal. Seems like the only virus who actually cures people.
Next post will probably be a question, if I can't find the answer on the forum.
Already having fun and I don't even have a CNC yet.
    , Theo.
