router head for engraving-opinions please? | | i use my cnc knee mill for engraving from time to time. for very small or short cycle jobs ill just use a 60 deg split carbide blank and live with the 4000 rpm available at the spindle. for jobs a little larger, say 10 minute cycle, i have a black and decker rotary hand tool i can mount up that gets me up to 25000 rpm. it gets pretty warm in that period of time. ive taken on a larger job about 20 min cycle and 24 pieces to do, and im considering moving up to a router head, around 1-2 hp. has anyone used one of these and can give me some input? im looking at using a higher quality brand, and i also wonder about the heat it will build running 30 min at a time, even though there will be virtually no load. considering also switching to a stub length 2 fl carbide ball em .015, which is the line width. doc is .015 and matl is 356 cast aluminum. any comments are appreciated. thanks in advance!
edit: ive no responses, if ive done something wrong ettiquette wise please forgive me as a noob. ive looked at cnc 4 x 8 router table web pages and id guess i am barking up the right tree. im worried about the heat because with my small black and decker the heat seems to deepen the engraving mark which widens it using a conical cutter, im guessing spindle growth and possibly the heat into the alum holding bracket. plus the black and decker is 100% surrounded by plastic which makes it hard to hold. the engraving is for verniers, just lines and numbers. id also be interested in hearing about the alum matl moving capacity of these routers and longevity. or should i go with the 3 hp head. tho quiet would be nice too. thanks!
administrators: please if this is in the wrong place, move it. thanks.
