I thought I would answer this here to avoid clogging the new RFQ forum that has just been opened....... Like HU says now with NAFTA there is very little in the way of duty now, I ship boths ways across the border many times a month and I gather the US has it easier as they do not bother to look at anything under $200.00, in Canada it is $20.00 . The USPS/Canpost can be cheaper but really slow due to Can customs consolidating their operations to just a couple of locations for processing. I am fortunate enough to be able to clear all my own incoming due to UPS having a bonded wharehouse, also, even on large equipment coming in by transport truck, I usually have it brought in to the customs bonded wharehouse until I clear it myself. So I do not pay brokerage on these and UPS shipments. There is alot of information on the tariff rates and tariff numbers for particular items on the Canada and US govt web sites, including the import forms. Over a certain amount, you have to declare the country of origin and provide a NAFTA declaration on some things, especially if you are manufacturing and exporting. I do not hear of US customers paying anything in the way of brokerage when I ship an ebay item via UPS? In Canada, if you import under a business name, They only collect the GST not the PST.
