like others out there the budget for cnc related items and other misc tools has cut into the christmas budget. so to compensate i am going to be making most of the presents this year. i will be making some large wooden crescent wrenches for my little nephews and in the handle i am going to put "RYAN'S TOOL Co." in raised letters into the pocket on the handle. After i complete the models for this i could probably post some dxf's and/or gcode, along with some pics and basic instructions. i am hoping that others are in the same perdicament as i and will post some other toys, nic-nacs or other items we can make for family/friends. the thought is that others may already have some cool things and we can all just download and cut parts out. this may speed up the process of comming up with ideas for gifts. maybe someone will have something on the list that others would have never thought about making. i would also like to build a rocking horse, if anyone has some drawings or other files, please upload them. lets all help each other out this christmas so we will have time to drink spiced egg-nog. instead of having to sit out in the garage and come up with ideas. |

| here is the project started, i still need to drill the holes for the thumbwheel pin and i guess what you would call the gear rack. i think that they look pretty cool. they are about 22" long made from maple. should last a little kid a while anyways. i was also thinking that once i get a little more practice threading that i would make some nuts and bolts to go with them and then maybe i would add another wrench, probably just a combination style. throw a couple of boards in with that stuff so the nephews could pretend to be real mechanics. i think that this gift is a lot cooler than some stupid plastic set they sell at wal-mart. i personalized the wrenches with the names on them. i think the total cutting time for the main parts and lettering was about an hour for both. so it was pretty quick. now time for the thumb wheel. anyone, out there got a rocking horse drawing available? |

Of course, wooden rubber-band guns also come to mind as a cool gift for some younger kids. You could even get fancy and make some really detailed ones instead of the dead-simple ones you see at fairs/etc.
