CNC diamond wire cutting machine

Hey All,

I googled for a little didn't see anything intresting. I will be cutting a lot of granite counter tops soon so i'm thinking of ideas for machines to help me get the work done faster and found diamond wire cutting a very good alternative to waterjet $$.
What wound be a better motor to use to move the material around while the wire is cutting, it will be very slow, steppers or servos? I'm asking because unsure if steppers runing for a very long time will survive.
