Going back to CAD school, some input needed !

    Hey folks,
I'm heading back to college to re-start my CAD certificate program. I will be trained to use Auto Cad and Solidworks. Just out of curiousity, those of you deeply involved in the design and postprocessing end of CNC, what is the preferred CAD software currently in the industry ? (My employer is currently using Unigraphics or "UG"). My ultimate goal is to be well versed and the design end of machining as well as the "hard" end. I do most all my basic 2D milling , drilling and tapping via "variable" type programs I've constructed myself. Thanks!

    Rich K.

I don't think there is a preferred cad program. Personally I like Solidworks best but that is just my opinion. The best thing I can tell you is that no mater what cad package you are using is to make sure that the model and print match!!! I run in to that one way to often. Good luck and learn them all!!

    I agree.
CAD has very little to nothing to do with making machine code.
Whatever gets the design/modeling done the fastest and has lots of cross program compatibility (translators).

    I also prefer SolidWorks
