ER25 Collets for Porter Cable Router

Since I posted my SimpleMill link, I have had a couple of inquiries about the Collet Chuck and Collets shown in my pictures.

I have used a Porter Cable router but have found the Bosch to have better end bearings and much less run out at the shaft end. Just my personal opinion!

I checked our local tool supply and found that a Collet Chuck and set of Collets would cost me over $500.00. I did a lot of searching and stumbled across CTC Tools on eBay. I purchased their C48 ER25 Straight Shank collet chuck and their set of 15 collets, A05 ER25 for a very reasonable cost.

The collet chuck was $13.00, the collet set $28.00. Air freight shipping from Hong Kong was $28.00. That ended up being a savings of over $400 compared to buying them locally.

The shank on the collet chuck was way to long. I cut it down to 3 inches and it really works well in my Bosch router. Incidentally, their stated runout tolarance is .0006 or better.

They have a lot of tooling at a very reasonable price, compared to my local tool supply.

Thanks Sooooo Much for this info. I'm sure there are many here ( as well as myself who will now be able to use those small and "odd" size cutters, extending our range and versatility. This is GREAT, better than Sliced Bread!!!! Great find
Thanks again
Dave

Hi Dave:
Glad that I could help. I did not believe the difference in price and kind of expected the tools to be of low quality. Much to my surprise and pleasure they were much more than I expected. Very good quality stuff.

Is this the Collet you purchased?

Is this the Imperial Set?

Metric Set?

I have a new Porter Cable so I could do much the same as you. Use the 1/2 collet that came with the PC then cut the shank of this one down and use it in the PC?

Chuck and Collet Set

I purchased their C48 ER25 Straight Shank collet chuck and their set of 15 collets, A05 ER25. That is your item one and three of your list.

Very good quality, very reasonable price. Used them for over a year and have not no problems.

Buy me a Beer?

What size collets are you looking for? If you only need 1/8, 1/4, 3/8,and 1/2, than the Precise Bit collets are a better choice, imo. Although they are more money, they are a very high quality product. Also, with the extension, any runout in the stock collet gets magnified the further away from the collet you get. The Precise Bit collets have extremely low runout. Unfortunately, the 1/8" collets are out of stock right now.

I am curious. Which Bosch vs which Porter Cable router? I have two Bosch Colts 1HP variable speed routers. One on my Taig and one on my MaxNC5. One is pretty good, but the other seems to be slightly eccentric (wobble).

I was actually considering switching to the 1.75 HP Porter Cable router for my high speed CNC aluminum cutting. On the commercial (contractor) side I've had better luck with Porter Cable for durability.
