    Starrett made in China?

I guess I have lived my life with my head buried in the sand. Just today I noticed a sales flyer from Travers Tool listing Starrett 6",8", and 12" dial calipers quote "Made in China to the specifications and tolerances of the L.S. Starrett Compant." This is the Starrett EXACT line of dial calipers. I am saddened that it has come to this for Starrett to compete in the market place. I have a couple of Starrett Master Verneers and I am sure they will last me as long as I do machine work. I think I will stick with Brown & Sharpe for my dial caliper needs.
    Regards to all.

Even being a Canadian, my reason for paying premium for any Starrett was made in America quality.
    This trend saddens me

I just wonder how long before some politician actuallly does something about it. Balanced trade (or more or less balanced) between countries is a good thing but the current model of $1,000 going into China's pocket from developed countries and $10 going back the other way can only end in disaster. I once read a book called "The day the dollar died" and I thought it was all a gross over reaction to world events. Now, I'm not too sure.
