I have no idea what I am talking about. I have hit a number of display shops and all seem to think I need someone with a "5 axis CNC router" that can work in clear acrylic. I am in the Los Angeles Basin in Calif. and have no idea how to find such a person or shop to do a short run, or at least give me an estimate. None of the shops had any idea either except "check the internet" so here I am. I do not want to clutter your Forums so if you can send me somewhere quickly I will get out of your hair. Thanks. I am looking to have about 70 clear acrylic 1:24 scale replicas of a Chevy SSR made to be mounted on a clear round pedestal with a oval base. The SSR would be approx 2.5" X 3" X 7". For those who might be interested but do not recognize the vehicle I have attached a photo below

It looks like fun, I'd have a go Do you have a 3D model file for the truck?Best regards, Jason |

You're welcome ![]() It'd depend how accurate you needed the model - a quick look around found a couple of models (with the roof down, unfortunately) in the Google 3D warehouse for Sketchup. If they were good enough, then you could use them as a base to start from. There might be other models in a more desirable file format out there too. Otherwise, yes - you'd need to get it scanned. Best regards, Jason Edit - Yep, there's definitely better models available. $118 is probably a lot cheaper than getting it scanned too...

Watch the model quality - the yellow $100 one is a much smaller file, so has less detail. It might be just fine though, you probably aren't looking for all the interior detail? I see now there is a $118 red top-down model, but I was looking at a yellow one with the top up for $118... Anyway, I suggest checking with the person who will be using the file to program from before you buy one, to be sure it will work for them. Best regards, Jason

I am looking for the top up and a clear model so I guess what I really want is a transparent, exterior only, model of the SSR with the top up. Seems to be quite a bit for me to learn here. I will not be buying anything until I am sure it is what is needed and the job will be done well. I am further along in the last few hours than I got in a couple days of leg work so that is good.

you can look on turbosquid.com as well for 3d models. look them over well though, these models are posted by random people from all over the works, some from high school kids. the quality and accuracy is highly variable and price is not always an indicator. as for something in your original post, you definitely dont "need" 5 or even 4 axis to make this. you just need multiple setups (tops, sides, front etc). you probably will end up with someone with a 3 axis mill though as opposed to a router because many routers dont have much clearance if you have to machine the front/back of the truck. 5 axis is nice, but anyone with that type of machine is going to charge a fortune.
