Gcode and a Laser engraver question

I'm in the process of converting a small CNC machine to a Laser engraver. My question is,
Is there a Gcode command to turn on and off the Laser? I can move the Z position up and down to the focal point, but that seems pretty inefficient. Any help would be appreciated.

I had the same problem and i have gound it at the you tube. I use Mach3 and artcam and have changed the postprocessor a little bit, so the laser goed 0.01 mm below zero (the laser on) and 0.01 pus the kaser is off.
