Some of these machines are built just to learn how to make one work and to learn the software with no real concern about whether it can cut anything accurately. If your nephew learns how to draw parts, generate gcode, and cut parts with this machine he can run any machine out there with some additional training, or be driven away from CNC forever. It's his choice. We can hope he wants to build a big, lean, mean CNC'n machine for his second one. Or help you build yours.
