looking for a solid design w/round linear rods

    Heys Guys/Gals,

I need to build a Cnc machine for a project I'm working on. The thing is I need to build it with material that I have at my disposal so as to control the cost and not deter monies from main project.

I have solid 1" round rods that I can cut from "exit door handles" and would like this to be the basis of the design for all three axis'.

My question is; does anyone know of a good design that could use this material for a 25" x 25" (could be smaller; this the maximum cut I can get from the door handles) machine that will be used for mdf, engraving and PCB boards.

I know the question is sort of vague but just to get conversation going as I have very limited experience in this area.

    Thanks folks.

    Ian

Checkout the JGRO or Joes 2006 CNC design on this forum. You will have to do some minor design/figuring out stuff to scale back the x axis to 25 inches..and some other things will change from using 1 inch rod instead of pipe...but it shouldn't be too bad. On the other hand, the cost of the pipe whether you use gas pipe or electrical conduit (as I am doing), is a very minor part of the cost, so if the redesign scares you at all, just go with the standard designs above.
