Well, this is my first build, but i think it is going well so far. I ordered the plans for this router about 2 weeks ago, and got started as soon as they arrived. I have made a few changes in materials and design so far, but not too much. 1st: i did not use any 2x4's or 2x6's. i made glue lams by glueing and nailing together 3 or more layers of 1/2" baltic birch plywood. the legs are 4 layers or 3/4" plywood. 2nd: i am not using gas pipe. I work at a cabinet shop and we have the reallynice chrome closet rod. its 1 5/16 outer dia, and has a 3mm wall thickness. this stuss is super stiff, strait and smooth. also, instead of putting nuts inside the pipe to hold the stugs, i just tapped the tubing to 3/8 x 16. here are some pics pics of the under side of the table, it measures 34" x 60" ![]() ![]() pics of the machine standing ![]() ![]() ![]() close-ups of the railing and gantry bearings ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() i know i have not got to far, but the machine seams sturdy and the gantry rools very nice on the x axis i plan of using rack and pinion on the x, and lead screw on y and z axis. router will be 3 1/4" PC i got the probotix monster hybird stepper kit, 400 for the x and y, 260 for the z. i hope these are big enough. please provide any feedback as this is my first build and im pretty new to all this |

| I glad every one likes it. I have now finished the y axis travel and im working on the z axis now. I am actually using THK linear slides for the z. I will me mounting the rack over the pinion, so i was hoping this would keep the gantry from lifting, but we will see. I bought plans, so i cant exactly post them, but half of this has just been made up on the fly. I can post more pics and give dimensions if anyone is interested |

| OH, I HAVE ALSO GOT a computer for it ( just need to upgrade to windows 2000 on it) also have the router ( variable speed 3.25 hp Porter Cable. With that and all 3 steppers mounted to the gantry, i be the gantry weighs well over 30-40 lbs, so that might keep it from lifting too |

| well, here are more pics of my progress. I have finished the x-axis, with the rack in pinion. i have the stepper mounted, blet ran and the racks adjusted. i will probally redesign the motor mount to mount it lower, as i want to build a tray for a wire carrier up there ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() i also plan on rebuilding the y and z carrage, as those where for mock up. i plan on bringing the y as close to my gantry beam as possible to bring the router more centered in the gantry. Also on the z axis, i was planning on using 1 car per rail, but i can do 2, but it seamed like over kill and it lessened my travel on the z. i ordered wires and connectors, and leads screws should be here next week, so i may be cutting in the next month |
