MoshaMill v2 - Production has started!

After my first build (link here) I had a few improvements that I wanted to make. In fact, my prototype was so weak that I only salvaged the acme rods and Z axis. But most importantly, I learned a ton! SO, here is my second attempt.

Instead of using MDF for the frame, the second version was made from steel. I chose steel because in-between my first and second machine I found someone who could nest the parts on a laser table!

And Also..

I had a brain lapse with my last post:

I am using the Xylotex 3 Axis package. It was super easy to assemble and had all of the components necessary to get started. The 450oz might be overkill for what i'm using them for but when I purchased they were the same price as the 269oz.

Also, I've been surfing the zone here for quite a while, soaking up all the info I can. WIth that said. There are a few things that I havn't been able to figure out:

1.) Software. Currently I'm using the demo version of Mach 3, it seems to work pretty well and was easy to configure, so I'm probably going to stick with that for the control portion of the setup. However, what is everyone using for CAM software? I use Autodesk Inventor to draw my parts, so I would like to find a program that I could dump a .STL file into to generate g-code. Any suggestions? I've tried a bunch of different programs, and right now CamBam seems to work pretty well, except I have to use DXF files, instead of 3D STL files.

2.) I have a rotozip mounted now, but if anyone has suggestions for a better tool I would be more than happy to hear it. What types of bits are you guys using on a regular basis? Right now i only have the standard RotoZip bits that came with the package. So suggestions on that would be great. You will probably need to know that I plan to cut UHMW and MDF with my machine.

Thanks in advance!
