Hehe i figured before i started it would cost me around 6k, i haven't added up the bills but it should be around there...

Not a cheap machine, but mainly quality components... and i don't have to bug anyone for support except for myself

Ok speed is set at 600. when jogging at full mach gives me a readout of just under 1200in/min and it's smooth..

Now I just have to figure out how to use my z limit proximity switch as a tool height block.

Elogica,

Can you confirm which Motor Pack you got from D & R Autochuck & Ekstrom Carlson? You say your spindle is 2.68hp and tops at 18000rpm yet according to their web site, this is Motor Pack 4 not 3 - just curious as I am interested and got them to quote me for both but seeing as there is only $200 between the two, the extra beef of 2.68hp could well come in handy.

With the dollar/pound level as it is now, it is a good time to buy from the States. However, I'm sure the UK inland revenue will take their unfair share

Mike

For a 5mm pictc ballscre it travels 5mm per turn right? so 200 steps on a stepper * 10ms = 2000 * 4.88 (25.4mm per inch / 5mm pitch) is this the correct way to calculate?

2000 microsteps / 5mm pitch = 400 ms per mm = 400 * 25.4 ms per inch = 10160 steps per inch. If that is what we are calculating, else disregard my post:-)

Thumbs up Router machine

Hi Elogicca,

It's great for your project but the price is not hobby. You have built this machine by yourself or not.( Both mechanic and electronic)If yes, I think you are same as professional.
I have some questions.
1) How many days do you build from start to finish?
2) Your spindle can engrave on metal surface or not. I have a look on your table. It looks like to engrave only wood or non-metal material.

Cheers,
Mongkol

Primarily the machine was made for wood plastic, basically i looked at all the commercial router tables and found price / performance a bit high for me.

ie. Z Axis ground ball screw and 25mm linear rails if offered was a big price.

Most were rack and pinion, which mine is but not on 25mm rails which mine is on.

Spindle option, although comparable in price the money i saved makes up for it.

The complete system electronics & mechanics were done by me took me about a month, but that is conception, execution and financial.

The end result i wanted was a commercial machine, and i got it

most quotes i got for a machine this size and linear rails / spindle / ball screw z etc were in the 18-25k range, so coming out @6k is not too bad
