Thumbs up Lets Start 3-axis "khattak Mill"

Lets start from scratches a new 3-Axis milling machine call it "Khattak Mill". This is my first milling machine. Drawings are prepared and some of the parts are machined. This mill will machine any workpiece sizing 500mm X 500mm to the Z-depth of 60mm.
Machining of CS, SS plastic and wood will be the capability of this mill. We will discuss construction drawings, parts and assembling.
Furthermore, we will go to the electronc part too. I will provide PCB drawing so that you can get it prepared with low cost.

I hope we all will enjoy this thread .

    Nice start.
I like your chice of Steel as it won't flex easily.

Just make sure you get everything squared as you start to assemble...

Walaikum Assalam Sting... n thank u Cbass...
Hmm.. the main structure welded and squaring and levelling is ensured.. This structure is rigid.. The fabrication of this type of machine may be expensive...but u will get proffessional work out of it...

U can see some machined parts here. MAjority of parts made up of Carbon steel.stepper mount plates are of aluminium. Antibacklash nut and bushes are of brass material.

Thank you BobWarfield... I always feel happy when some one comments on my project... Now i m posting autocad drawing of my CNC machine... These are the parts drawing... I machine all the parts of CS where SS is mentioned.... after completion of my cnc mill i will post updated drawings (some minor modifications i.e. tolerances in drawings). I will soon post drawing for the main structure...

You can discuss with me about the drawings any time... me daily visit the forum.. currently i m planning for mini gas turbine project...

    Question

Very cool. I'll follow this with interest. What machining tolerances are you aiming for in the finished system?

You know sliding parts needs some standard tolerances.... My drawings do not contains these tolerances (only in sliding parts it required tolerance
i.e. tolerances beween sliding rods and sliding block bushes etc..

    stingsting

me using stepper motors with 200 oz in torque.

    Looking good

    Salam Khalid,

I have been folowing your thread and I must say that I am very impressed with your fabrication. I am in the process of building my 2nd machine(s). One being a 4x8 plasma cutting table and the other being a 4x4 all steel construction moving gantry router. My first machne was a moving table with a working area of 17 in x 13 in. That proved invaluable in teaching me the do's and don'ts of the design/fabrication process. CNCZONE has proved an ever more of an invaluable source of information and inspiration.

The controllers are again self made. The first ever being a straight 4 phase driver with huge resistors for current control and the latest one being a current chopping 100V 8amp driver. (have to thank pminmo for the resources).

Do keep up the brilliant work that you are doing. Looking forward to your progress.

    EMMKAY

p.s. I am in Karachi. whereabouts are you!!!!
