Chris's build log of Hack's 80/20 router ( 2'x4')

OK im going to start off with info about myself here.
I am a licensed electrician/commercial developer/ vinyl signmaker when needed/ and all around DIYer.
I have 0 CNC experiance except for my vinyl cutter for doing signs.
My father has a mill and 2 lathes 1 small 1 big ( 24" swing 6' bed)
and i have a small lathe i recently aquired hot wired it to work but never really used it yet( no need). so i can look to dad for milling lathe info..
I am using Hack's Plans found here
http://studysession.com/cnc/8020-CNCRoutercad.pdf

They are designed to use the 80/20 bearings and has a 2'x3' cutting area. I'm Going to stretch the x? out to 4' to make a 2'x4' table.
im thinking of using it for making signs in foam wood and acrylics.
Maybe some other uses.(this is a toy) this will not be for production use. as i dont do anything production really my vinyl cutter gets use 2-3 times a month. Well lets begin..

I am going to keep track of all my pricing here..
i am including shipping wherever possible.
hitachi router
$115.00shipped
80/20 surplus rails, bearings, and T-nuts
$717.40 shipped
Wood Kit from Hack
$70.00 shipped
Mcmaster - threaded rod, delrin, nuts, Bearings, aluminum angle.
$194.44 shipped

Total so far..
$1096.84 add the xylotex kit and i should be around 1600 about..
remeber i also bought things to make it easier for me it could have easily cost less.
like waiting and buying the standard 80/20 bearings. buy used pieces of 8020
buying a used/refurb router, you could build your own drivers and buy ebay motors.. etc.

Is there a reason you are going with standard threaded rod instead of an acme thread, which will five you faster rapids and more torque?

http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showth...403#post279403
Im going to get the machine up and running on threaded rod then turn it over to acme rod, it looks like..
