The video of this one will be up to the customer

The spindle Taper when finished will have Zero run-out

When it is complete, The taper will be reground with the spindle completely assembled

It then depends on how good the collets & tooling you use, This will determine how much run-out you will have

To assemble the Spindle & lock the End Caps in Place, A Pin Wrench was made, to torque the the front & rear End Caps

The front End Cap holds the outer race of the Bearings tight into the Bearing pocket,This is part of the preloading of the Bearings

The rear End Cap has a Smalley Wave Spring in front of it, for thermal expansion of the Spindle

    Spindle Mounts also in place

Fantastic, one more question, how many hours have you put into this project? I'm thinking it is just about done now.
    Thank You.

Yes it is all finished except for grinding the taper, & that will get done when I have finished doing a production run for another customer

Mactec54- I'm still interesting in buying one to go on my new CNC machine.

If you like, please PM me with some ideas on price and time. I would like a stripped down version, just spindle and collet nut etc but no pulley or mounts. I'll make mounts to suit my machine and might use a toothed pulley to a DC motor, I have some stuff here already for that. Thanks!

I'm just a hobby machinist, but would like to try something like this for my CNC router. What special tooling/machining was required to be able to machine the collet holder? I'm guessing it was hardened steel? I've never done anything harder than mild steel on my mill drill or lathe. (I did drill some stainless steel once, and I just put a dent in it and turned it bright orange!)

I'd also love to see your set up for regrinding the collet on the finished spindle. I bought a cheap chinese spindle (not through ebay - stupid!) which has terrible runout. I'd like to try and correct it before scrapping it.

I really like the mounting brackets you made. They look so clean. How did you cut the clamping slot? Was that done by hand?

    rowbare

The slot was done mostly on the mill, The hole was drilled at the end, then cut with a .050 slitting cutter, from each side, it then just has a small piece in the middle to do by hand

It is so fun to see beautiful craftsmanship! Especially after having the tools but lacking the knowledge. I can now appreciate the planning, execution and effort required to accomplish some of these things. Bravo and thank you so much for sharing.

Will you ever attempt a draw bar on another spindle? That would be interesting.
