I'm planning to build a chain-driven cnc router ala buildyourcnc.com. It will have 1:3 reduction with 0.5 pitch sprockets/chain. The Y gantry will weigh from 50 to 80lbs with router attached and the machine size is 36" x 54" (cutting 24"X42"). Will the Hobbycnc driver/425 oz-in combo handle the weight? Or should I drive the X axis with 2 motors? I guess I can live by a reduced IPM if resonance is an issue (maybe due to the weight a single stepper wiil try to move) as long as I have a machine to play with and upgrade in the future.

Help will be much appreciated.

Thanks,
jordan
