Have you see the free jgro plans yet? If not, you might want to check them out.
Hi all, I am new to CNC routing. I have been shopping for a machine to replace myself in the production of my product. movingmesa.com
I just can't afford a commercial machine so started looking at building one. What i need is a machine that can cut 1/4" to 3/8" plywood that is approx. 16" x 26" min. cutting area. I want to use porter cable router and spin bits that are 1/4" to 1/2" spiral/compression. Can anyone recommend plans for a machine that can do this? Have I given enough info for this purpose?
Charlie

thats a pretty big cutting area (especially for a first machine) not sure if the jgro can handle that (but i'm a newb too)
I'm pretty sure that the jgro cutting area is about 38" x 19" (look at cnc_dtl04). I'm pretty new too (still building my jgro router) but I'm pretty sure that it can be scaled up a bit. I don't know about the other requirements. One thing I can say is that the cost of the jgro router is in the $600 neighborhood... and that's for a handmade machine. I might look at the K2 rotuers advertised on this site... or maybe look for someone willing to supply the jgro pieces in kit form.
Looking at the parts you need to cut i think the jrgo is a little to small for it. not sure.... i thought it is 15" wide cutting area? i can't remember because i redrew it and made mine a 25"x45" cutting area.
Another option is a kit

or a complete router

thanks for all the help guys. I hope I can find something from these choices.
