    Small scale hobby hotwire CNC.

Hi guys, I've been looking around the net for a easy and cheap built of hotwire CNC. I don't need anything huge or super fast, just something that can cut out wings and fuselage out of foam. By cheap I mean around $500 or less. I don't know if I sound crazy for wanting it that cheap, so please don't bash me... I'm new. So, let me hear what you have to say.

Well here you go! Go to www.drayconstruction.com or call 714-540-2279 and contact Danny. He has a set of plans just like the others shown, but all of the parts except the the electronics are available at your local hardware store. The plans include what to use for the hot wire power supply and what to use for the wire too. It looks like he uses it for making custom moldings. I also found some software at http://www.excelcut.netmyne.com/ (by the way it's FREE) should work to run the cutter. I down loaded an older version, but never got around to using it so I dont know how well it works so give it a try.
Also check out this web site http://www.ae.uiuc.edu/m-selig/ads/coord_database.html as it has a listing of all the airfoils with there .DAT files that the software uses. Good luck on the build.

Woo, it seems that I would be able to build that after all. Thanks fellas! I'll post updates as soon as I decide on which one to build.

If you really want cheap, and this thing should be more then stiff enough as well, check out here, http://grenadeindoor.modelisme.com/cnccompact.htm

I intend to build a hot wire in the next couple of months of this design. I was all over the design at 8linx for awhile, but it's just way more machine then one needs to cut out airfoils.
