    Confused newbie

Want to say hello.I have alot of questions. I joined the yahoo cncfoam site yesterday. Have read most subjects here. And I am way confused.
Let me start out with my needs. Need to cut 4ft on my x,4inches on the z,and 8inches on the y.
    Heres what I have now
    G540 4 axis controller box
    Usb smooth stepper
166oz steppers running my Taig cnc mill quite well.
Have a mach3 license with wizards enabled.
    viacad for cad
deskproto for cam. they have a sweet deal on right now regularly1300us now 300us for limited time.
What I dont have but looking at
bottom of the page http://www.8linx.com/cnc/online_store.htm I have the shafts and the acme screws already.
I am really lost on the power supply for the wire.
    will a mastech HY-3006 0-30v 0-6amp work?or do I need to step up to a 0-10amp?
what I need to cut is imagine the frontal look of a sea gull. The vee of its wings. I am building light reflectors for flourescent lights.
Really worried on the software,do I need to go with a foam cutting software for control or will mach3 work?
Am I on the right tract or way in left field?

30V for a 4-foot wire should be more than enough, probably too much. When cutting foam, you want the wire hot enough to melt through the foam and that's it. If you're making any smoke, your wire is TOO HOT, so cut the voltage back.
The voltage required will depend on the wire you use. Many guys use stainless steel or NiChrome, but if you want to do it right, get some Rene` wire. It's thinner, stronger, made for higher temps and doesn't stretch anything near as much as the other wires. It's what I use. http://www.skykingrcproducts.com/acc.../renewire.html

Thanks for the reply,Looks like I will be using that wire.Last thing I need to be fighting is the wire stretching and breaking.

You're welcome. An answer for your amperage question I forgot to answer earlier - I have a 62" Rene` wire on my longest bow, for cutting styrofoam sheets that are 60" long. It has a total of 19.3 ohms at the connector, but the wire is only 18.5 ohms. The last time I used it for a bunch of cuts, I was running at about 32 volts which is (32V/19.3hms) less than 2 Amps.
The cuts were perfect, leaving tiny "whiskers" in the kerf after the cut.
