hey all, do you think this world would be a better place if we had forged aluminum pie jaws ? i know someone who is thinking of making forged aluminum pie jaws to sell smilar to Abbot style pie jaws but forged. he has already gotten a sample part forged and the HRB on the part is 97 and the HRB on T6-6061 was 58. what do u guy think ? is there a market for forged pie jaws ? he is going to list the price @ 90 dollars for an 8 inch set(3pcs) 1.5x 60 deg serr. what do u guys think? good idea or bad? any comments would be appricated =) Last edited by saacengineering; 08-24-2007 at 05:08 AM.

I would buy some. We use our jaws over for the same part, I think forged aluminum would replace cast iron or home made steel for us. I'd like to have 8" as you described, also 10' dia. jaws that fit 8" chucks, and 10" jaws for 1.5 mm X 60° 10" chucks

thanx for the feedback guys, i am sorry, the only type of pie jaws that we are making right now are the 8 inch 1.5 mm x60 deg serr and we will be selling those on ebay in mid or late nov, but i was thinking for the people who wanted different serr and so on i can sell blank forged pieces set of 3 running @ 70 dollars so when you buy them you have to drill your own holes and the t-slot and serr. in the future we hope to expand our range into larger dia and smaller dia pie jaws such as 6,10,12 inch forged alum pie jaws, jsut depends if theres a demand for it. let me know what you guys things thanx

Hey guys, Now finally available to purchase, good quality well made forged Aluminum pie jaws. You can use these like regular Pie jaws but it can take much higher chuck pressure without deformation. The forged aluminum is almost two times stronger than 6061 T-6. The hardness of forged Aluminum is HRB-89 and 6061-T6 comes in at HRB-58 and Abbot cast pie jaws hardness is HRB-43. check them out on ebay The pictures below are one of the parts we made. The part was calmped .600 deep, It was only 20 lbs but with the forged pie jaws we were able to clamp this part at 180 Psi which allowed us to take a deeper cut which results in less cycle time. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...0%3D%26fvi%3D1 ![]() Last edited by saacengineering; 03-27-2008 at 01:36 PM.
