I have never seen or heard of a DCMT 09 insert. Do you have a picture?
    What is the IC? Thickness?

    Regards

    DCMT 090204
    As per ISO designation system,
    09 > cutting edge length = 9 mm (actually 3/8 inch, i.e., 9.53 mm)
    02 > thichness = 2 mm (actually 3/32 inch, i.e., 2.38 mm) and
    04 > nose radius = 0.4 mm (actually 1/64 inch, i.e., 0.397 mm).
ISO system (which is a metric system) does not directly define IC. If you are interested, you have to calculate.
ANSI system is different and uses inches.

I have a question on some inserts.
    This is what I have..
    DCMT 2(1.5) .008R
    DCMT 2(1.5) .03R
    DCMT 2(1.5) .015R
    Diamond shape 55 degrees
Now my question is, what dose the .0??R mean. Are these numbers for a smoother finish,
and if so which one would be the best finish cut.
    Thanks
    Glen

    Glen,

That's the radius of the "point" of the cutting tool.

You have to get the ISO equivalent of 090204. There are 5 pages of DCMT inserts on ebay. I just ordered 1 box of 1/64 Rad and 1 box of 1/32 Rad, $75 per 10

The 09 size DCMT insert in ISO translates into a 5/16" IC size in ANSI. The 5/16" size is also described as a 2.5 size.

This is a good chart showing the various insert dimensions and how the ISO and ANSI sizes compare.
