    Router bits in cnc mill

Is there any reason I couldn't safly run router bits in my cnc mill? I cut mostly aluminium and router bits are way easier to get my hands on when making special items.

that was in cast iron.. (turbo exhast house). It was a really cheap bit but it was the shape I needed and fit int the space.

    Thanks

I think I'll wreck some aluminium tonight playing with router bits.

Looks like a holset turbo What were you doing to that housing?

It is a 9b exhaust housing from a dodge stealth(3000gt) twin turbo. I was boring it out/re-contouring it to make a wrx 13t exhaust turbine fit.

Nice. Thats something I've wanted to play with ... specifically cramming bigger compressor wheels in housings. Silly oem turbos and their screwy bolt patterns

I've been using a 5/8 corner rounding router bit on a certain part for a few years now. works great. it's carbide tipped and cost about $20. i believe a similar hss cutter was about $100.
i do the same amount of machining in 1/4 the time for 1/5 the cost. plus the tool last alot longer. it's a winner for certain applications.

I have used carbide corner radius router bits intended for woodworking to radius the corners of cold rolled and hot rolled steel.
An open mind is a virtue...so long as all the common sense has not leaked out.
