    Extra-Long End-mill - Dangerous or not?

    Hello.

I had recently built a homemade cnc machine.
Currently my spindle is 23,000 rpm router with 1/4 shank.

My question is - do you think I can use this End-Mill (6 inch long) to cut hard wood with? I'm a bit scared that the bit will just "fly" away or will brake during the job.

    Any thoughts?

Six inches long spinning at 23,000 rpm???

I do not think that is a good idea. It might run perfectly okay for a while but if the collet was evenly slightly out of true or if the tool chipped so that it was unbalanced you may get bits of carbide flying around.
An open mind is a virtue...so long as all the common sense has not leaked out.
